My Story: How I took control and changed my life

Updated: Sep 15, 2021

By every standard, I was "healthy" but my body was telling me otherwise...

"I masked it all behind a smiling face and kept doing what I thought I SHOULD be doing. What the wellness industry told me I should be doing."

I was having smoothies every morning, going to yoga and workout classes, I walked every day, ate salads, cut out wheat and dairy, did juice cleanses, regularly got cupping done, acupuncture and massage therapy. On paper I was doing everything "right". How many of your read that and was like, "wow, she was really healthy."? I guess externally it appears so. But during this time I was also struggling with terrible anxiety, clinically diagnosed massive depressive disorder and PTSD, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, migraines (so debilitating my doctors and I had to resort to botox that they would inject into my neck to quite literally numb the pain), infertility and chronic pain.

I was miserable.

And yet, I masked it behind a smiling face and kept doing what I thought I SHOULD be doing. What the wellness industry told me I should be doing.

Fast forward to my first year of school of my diploma in Natural Nutrition at CSNN and IT FINALLY HIT ME. My symptoms all had a root issue.

For years I was playing wack-a-mole with my symptoms. I'd try to "fix" my pain by doing X. I would attempt to deal with my headaches by taking Y. I would try to numb the pain by trying Z. But the truth is that symptoms just keep popping back up even when I "successfully" eased one. It was exhausting.

When I truly began to understand that my symptoms had a root issue I was able to uncover what exactly that was. In doing so I was able to make small (and some big) adjustments to my "on paper healthy lifestyle". Once the root issue was balanced suddenly all symptoms in all areas started to fade.

I have successfully overcome my depression and no longer require medication. PTSD issues rarely arise. Anxiety has eased significantly. Migraines are infrequent and I no longer need injections. Infertility? Well I now have a healthy two year old son!!! I still have endometriosis and ovarian cysts but the pain is infrequent and rupturing cysts are happening further and further between. (This is something I'm actively working on and continuing to see improvements!).

Understanding my body and its unique needs was the greatest gift I could have ever given myself. It has given me the freedom to live in (and actually enjoy!) my body again.

As a Nutritionist it is my job to help you understand the root of your issues so you may also find balance in our body and end the up stream, wack-a-mole, never ending carousel ride with your symptoms.

If you have been fighting an internal battle... doing everything "right" but continue to feel confused, depleted, angry and frustrated with your body , I hope my story serves as a sign of hope.

all my love,

Jess
